FDA and CDC Remind Consumers of the Dangers of
Drinking Raw Milk
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)
and the Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention (CDC) are reminding consumers of the
dangers of drinking milk that has not been
pasteurized, known as raw milk. Raw milk
potentially contains a wide variety of harmful
bacteria – including
Salmonella, E. coli O157:H7,
Listeria, Campylobacter and Brucella – that
may cause illness and possibly death.
Mandatory Trash Pick-up
Rates 2008
During Spring Break and summer enormous amounts
of trash are generated by both commercial
businesses and rental properties on South Padre
Island. Please be advised that Island officials
have been directed to carry out vigorous
enforcement of Chapter Nine of the Town Code of
Ordinances regarding Garbage, Trash, Weeds and
Other Waste Material. Town Officials are tasked
with identifying overflowing waste containers,
photographing these containers and reporting
them to Allied Waste Services (formerly BFI) for
immediate waste disposal.

Dogs at Large
According to the Code of Ordinances, “All dogs
located within the Town shall at all times be fenced,
housed, leashed, tethered or in some other manner
physically restrained so that they may not at any
time run at large within the limits of the Town.”
As a gentle reminder to avoid citations, it is important
for the safety of both the people and animals that
this be observed due to the density of our
population.

Whether you enjoy backyard barbecues or backpacking,
cycling or just sitting by the pool, summer means
it's time to get outside.
But nothing spoils the fun faster than one very
tiny creature: the mosquito.
 The
Town encourages property owners not to
mow their yards during bird migration periods
of September, October (southbound migration)
and March, April. (northbound migration).
