The South Padre Island
Economic Development Corporation, a Section 4A corporation,
was formed in 1993 and operates with funding from a 1/2 cent
sales tax. Its mission and functions include:
- Promote South Padre Island's
economic growth.
- Solicitation of new businesses
to the area.
- New business inquiries.
- Compile and distribute pertinent
area economic information.
- Take advantage of economic
opportunities.
- Provide assistance as required
for prospective businesses.
- Prepare and distribute
Relocation Packets.
- Place emphasis on projects that
enhance South Padre Island, making it a more attractive location
for visitors, permanent residents, and commercial enterprises.
- Focus on projects that provide
long‑term benefits to the community with direct or indirect
capital payback.

the Chamber of Commerce
most ALL
Island businesses are members. The Chamber is supportive of
EDC's efforts in attracting businesses to the Island, and then
